Dryer - Drum Lamp

Some GE and Hotpoint dryers have a drum lamp that turns on automatically when the door is opened. This makes the interior of the dryer more visible when loading and unloading.

Replacing the Drum Lamp Inside a Dryer

Incandescent Lamp

The convenient location makes it easy to replace the lamp. The following steps apply to replacing the lamps in most 1995 and newer dryers with an incandescent light.

  1. Unplug the dryer cord or disconnect the power to the dryer at the circuit breaker.
  2. Reach above the dryer opening from inside the drum.
  3. Remove the bulb and replace it with the same size bulb that is removed. The replacement bulb is typically a seven watt, screw base.

LED Lamp

If the drum light is an LED light, replacement must be done by a qualified technician.

Additional Notes

If a dryer does not come featured with a drum lamp, one cannot be added.

On models that come with a dryer drum lamp, it is not safe to operate the dryer without the light bulb in place.

For instructions specific to your model, please consult the Owner's Manual for the specific model you own.
