AHRI - Air conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Institute. Actually does the rating of air conditioners and refrigeration units.

AHAM - Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers. They are involved in specifications of household appliances, such as verifying accurate cubic ft. ratings on refrigerators, sizing air conditioners, etc.

ASHRAE - American Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Engineers.

  • Starting in 2018, Portable Air Conditioners are required to have a SACC (Seasonally Adjusted Cooling Capacity) rating at new Department of Energy conditions . This new test yields a lower rating compared to the previous ASHRAE conditions. The cooling effect the consumer will realize is the same. The important thing is to match the room size recommendation to the area being cooled.
