Air Conditioner - Power Cord

With the exception of some Zoneline commercial air conditioners, GE Appliances room air conditioners are factory equipped with power cords. The plug type and sizes vary depending on the application and BTU of the appliance.

Our room air conditioners must be plugged directly into a properly grounded 3-prong wall outlet. Newer air conditioner power cords may include a current interrupter device, which has a Test and Reset button on the plug case. Do not use an extension cord or plug the air conditioner into a surge protector or multi-outlet adapter.

Identifying the Power Cord Location and Length on an Air Conditioner

Window Room Air Conditioners

The power cord is located below the control panel coming out at the base of the air conditioner. In many cases, the cord will be packed behind the grill when shipped so it may appear there is no cord with the appliance.

The length of the power cord varies by voltage and BTU:

  • 115 volt is 48" or 72" (5,000-14,000 BTU)
  • 230/208 volt is 52" (18,000 BTU) or 48" (25,000 BTU)

Built-in Air Conditioners

The power cord length is 68" and the location (left or right side) can be found in the Installation Instructions. Download a copy of the Installation Instructions. The standard power cord length on Zonelines is 6 feet.

  • J-Series models ending in “F” or “G” have a power cord placed on the bottom RIGHT of the appliance, as you face the front. Newer model year ending in “H” have the power cord placed on the bottom LEFT of the appliance.
