Hood Does Not Remove Smoke or Odor

Vent hoods are 100% function-tested at the factory. Exhaust performance is a function of many factors, the most important being anything that restricts airflow.

 

• Make sure filters and hood surfaces are kept clean of grease and dirt. Although the silver grease filters are hand-washable, do not immerse the black charcoal filters in water (used on recirculating hoods). These must be replaced.

• Hoods work best when installation recommendations in the Installation Instructions are followed.

• Some lower CFM hoods should not be installed over professional-style cooking products with high BTU ratings. Low-CFM hoods do not have the draw power needed to eliminate smoke and odors.

• Make sure nothing such as animal nests or packing materials is blocking the vent.

• Check the damper cover. The cover may not be opening; it should swing freely.

• Check to ensure the filter is installed with the open end up so that it clears the fan blade.

• Check that the filter is not twisted or bent.

• Check for obstructions in the ductwork. It is important that your wall or roof cap has a cover or door. Make sure nothing is blocking the vent.
