Range - Removable Oven Bottom

Many gas and a few electric ranges have a removable oven bottom that enables you to clean any excessive spillovers before starting the self-clean cycle. This removable oven bottom can be cleaned with soap and warm water or a soap-filled pad, if needed. The bottom MUST be placed back in the oven before the self-clean cycle is started.

To remove the oven bottom on gas ranges:

  1. Remove the oven shelves/racks.

  2. Remove the two knurled hold-down screws at the rear of the oven. If they are too tight to remove by hand, use a coin or screwdriver to loosen and remove them.

  3. To lift out the oven bottom, place your fingers in the slots in the oven bottom and lift the rear of the oven bottom up and pull back until the oven bottom is clear of the lip at the front.

  4. Then, lift the bottom up and out. To replace the bottom, place it in the oven with the back raised about 6 to 8 inches or until you can insert the front of the oven bottom under the hold-down lip at the front. Then, push the back of the oven bottom down fully into place on the metal flanges and insert the hold-down screws.

If the range you own has a removable oven bottom, the instructions will be in the Owner's Manual for the specific model you own.
