Air Conditioner Usage During Cold Temperatures
In order to operate your room air conditioner effectively, do not use it when the outdoor temperature is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Operation of the unit in these temperatures limits the cooling capacity of the unit and could cause the indoor coil to ice over.
In some cases, the compressor will not come on at all if outdoor temperatures are too low. If the unit is operated when outdoor temperatures are below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, ice may develop, causing the fan motor to lock up.
In extreme high temperatures, a room air conditioner will improve indoor air temperatures approximately 15-20 degrees.
