Dehumidifiers Automatic Humidistat (Humidity Control) Operation

Dehumidifiers have an automatic humidistat that can be adjusted to suit your individual comfort level. Set the control to the desired humidity level (ex. 45%), and the unit will cycle off when the set humidity level is reached. It will cycle back on when it detects humidity level has increased to 5% greater than the set level.

Older model dehumidifiers also have an automatic humidistat, called a humidity control. The control has settings from 1 to 10. 10 provides the greatest amount of dehumidification, while 1 provides the least. The humidity control automatically maintains the selected humidity level; it starts the dehumidifier when the humidity is high and shuts it off when the humidity is low.

Even when the control is set at the highest setting (10), the dehumidifier could run continuously during particularly humid periods due to humid air that seeps into the room through walls, doors, and windows. The use of clothes dryers and similar equipment also adds moisture to the air. The continuous operation of the dehumidifier during such humid periods is normal and necessary to maintain desired humidity levels.
