Electric Range - Cleaning Drip Pans and Trim Rings
At one time, most electric ranges had coil heating elements with drip pans and trim rings. Nowadays, radiant ceramic glass cooktops are the prevalent design with only a handful of electric ranges featuring coil elements.
Cleaning Drip Pans and Trim Rings on an Electric Coil Range
Cleaning methods recommended for gray porcelain drip pans with separate chrome trim rings.
- Wash with soap and water
- Clean in the dishwasher
- The ammonia procedure below can be used as well.
Cleaning methods recommended for one-piece black shiny or one-piece gray porcelain drip pans.
- Wash with soap and water
- Clean in the dishwasher
- For heavy soil, a soap filled scouring pad can also be used.
- These pans can also be cleaned in the self-cleaning oven, but will lose their original shine and luster. After cleaning in the self-clean oven, rinse off the white residue with water and wipe them dry.
Removing Heavy Soil from One and Two Piece Drip Pans
- Put the drip pan and 1/4 cup of ammonia into a plastic bag or container. (The fumes will help soften the soil.
- Allow the pan/ring to soak overnight.
- Remove the pan/ring from the bag and rinse thoroughly and polish with a soft cloth.
- Caution: Be aware of the strong fumes when opening the bag.
Note
- Both types of drip pans are acid resistant. However, any acids such as fruit juices, tomato, or vinegar should not be permitted to remain on the finish.
- Do not attempt to clean chrome drip pans or trim rings in the self-cleaning oven. They will warp and discolor.
