Oven Lock Light Operation During Self-Clean

The oven Lock light is designed to come on 30 to 40 minutes into a clean cycle. At this point, the door is automatically locked. The oven has reached about 600 degrees and it is not safe to open the door.

The lock light will stay on for the rest of the cycle and will remain on until the oven cools below 600 degrees. When the light goes out, the door can be opened.

The lock light is thermostatically controlled and may come on if cooking at high temperatures for a long period of time. If the Lock light glows when the oven set is switched to Clean and the oven is still hot from previous baking or broiling, the light may glow to indicate that the oven is too hot for the latch to be moved to the clean position. If this occurs, allow the oven to cool and then you should be able to slide the latch.
