Range & Wall Oven - Solution to Oven Racks Sticking

You may find that your oven racks become difficult to slide in and out, especially after a self-clean cycle. Listed below are tips for making your oven racks slide in and out easily.

Helping a Flat Oven Rack to Slide More Easily

  1. Put a small amount of vegetable oil on a soft cloth or paper towel.
  2. Rub the vegetable oil onto the left and right edge of the racks, ensuring they are lightly coated.
Warning: Using other cooking oils, such as olive oil, coconut oil, peanut oil, etcetera, will cause a discoloring or a rust like color residue on the racks and oven cavity sides. To clean this residue, use a soap and water or a vinegar and water solution. Rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth.

Extension Racks Are Difficult to Extend

Lubricate the racks with the graphite lubricant provided with your oven. If the graphite lubricant is missing or more is needed, the GE Appliance part number is WB02T10303.

  1. Remove the rack from the oven.
  2. Remove any debris in the side tracks with a paper towel.
  3. Shake the graphite lubricant.
  4. Place 4 drops in the tracks on the left and right sides of the oven.
  5. Replace the rack in the oven. Then, open and close the rack several times to distribute the lubricant.

Extension Racks Are Difficult to Remove or Put Back Into the Oven

  • Wipe the oven rack supports with vegetable oil. Do not wipe oil on the rack slides.
Warning: Using other cooking oils, such as olive oil, coconut oil, peanut oil, etcetera, will cause a discoloring or a rust like color residue on the racks and cavity sides. To clean this residue, use a soap and water or a vinegar and water solution. Rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth.
