Refrigerator - Steps to Fill Water Dispenser Tank

Refrigerators that dispense chilled water from the dispenser on the door have a water tank. The water is stored and chilled in either a storage tank or coil tubing until it is needed. To see if the refrigerator has a tank or coil, pull out the vegetable bins and look on the back wall. Recovery time for the coiled tubing is significantly less than models with storage tanks, since there is less water to cool down in the coil than the larger reservoir.

Filling the Water Dispenser Tank or Coil on a Refrigerator

New refrigerators with a water dispenser must have the water reservoir filled with water before it will dispense through the door. This is necessary the first time the dispenser is put into service.

To fill the water dispenser tank and tubing, depress the water dispenser for approximately 3 minutes to allow the reservoir to fill.
