Monogram Ice Maker - Self-Defrosting
Monogram ice makers make sheets of ice that are formed in an evaporator pan and then dropped onto a heating grid that cuts them into 3/4" squares. The cubes are then dropped into the storage bucket. The ice maker is a manufacturing and storage compartment for ice, but is not a sealed freezer compartment. This means ice in the storage bucket is constantly melting. A drain system is required for these ice makers.
If there is no drain to use to remove the excess water, there is an optional drain pump that will pump the water out.
The average temperature in the ice maker bucket is 42 to 45 degrees F, thus the evaporator does need defrosting.
