Microwave - Using Temperature Probe (on models so equipped)

Follow the below steps for using the microwave probe:

  1. Insert the probe at least one inch into the food to insure accurate temperature readings.
  2. Insert the probe into the meat in a horizontal position.
  3. Insert the probe through a plastic wrap if using plastic wrap.
  4. Do not use the probe with frozen foods.
  5. Remove the probe from the oven cavity receptacle with a pot holder. Watch out because the metal end will be hot.
  6. Clean the probe with mild detergent and a soft cloth. Most probes cannot be re-washed in the dishwasher, however, some of the newer microwave probes can be.

Please consult the Owner's Manual for assistance with the probe.  Download a copy of the Owner's Manual.

Ham RoastThe probe should be placed horizontally in the center of the ham/roast's thickest part. If the roast is uneven in shape or contains fat or bone, select an angle that will bring the tip of the probe to the center of the thickest meaty area without touching fat or bone.

Chicken / TurkeyInsert the probe into the meatiest part of the leg (if using a Turkey cooking bag insert the probe through the bag). Position the probe below the end of, and parallel to the leg.

FishInsert the probe just above the gill into the meatiest area, parallel to the backbone. The probe should be on the side of the fish that is closest to the dish.

Probe Limitations: Microwave probes are designed to be used with casserole type foods, liquids and meat items. The temperature range is 80-199 degrees, which make them unsuitable for candy making. If the food item is colder than 80 degrees, the oven temperature readout will usually read -80 degrees until it reaches that temperature.
