Microwave - How To Proof Bread Dough Made From Scratch

Bread made from scratch requires the dough to rise two times. The first time is usually 1 to 2 hours and the second time is about 30 minutes to an hour. Proofing dough accomplishes the first rising of the dough.

Proofing Bread Dough in a Microwave Oven

We suggest the following process for the proofing of bread dough made from scratch.

  • Microwave 3 cups of water in 1 quart measure at High (10) for 2 to 3 minutes until steaming hot.
  • Place the bowl of dough in the oven next to the water. Cover the bowl lightly with a towel. Microwave at Warm, which is Power Level 1, for 20 to 24 minutes.
  • Test for rising by making an indentation with your finger. The dough should not spring back and the surface should be dry.
