Microwave - Benefit of the Beverage Pad

The Beverage pad on a microwave is usually sensor operated and is designed to heat all kinds of beverages such as coffee, tea, or hot chocolate.

Using the Beverage Pad on a Microwave

This feature uses the auto cook sensor to sense the steam from the beverage as it is heating and heats it to a "hot" temperature. This "hot" temperature is similar to a coffee temperature just brewed from a coffeemaker and is a satisfactory "hot" temperature for the dissolving of instant coffee, hot chocolate, use of a tea bag or the use of coffee singles. To operate it, on most models you simply press the Beverage pad and it starts immediately. On some models, you press the Beverage pad and then press the Start pad.

Facts About Sensor Cooking and the Beverage Feature

  • This sensor beverage pad is typically only found on models with an Auto Cook feature.
  • This feature is different from the "timed" beverage pad found on some models.
  • For the models with an Instant On control feature, there is no need to depress the START pad.
  • The AHAM standard for brewed coffee temperature is 170 to 205 degrees Fahrenheit.

Note

  • For non-sensor models with the option to select a serving size such as 4 ounces, 8 ounces, 12 ounces or 16 ounces, you only have 30 seconds after the feature is started to change the serving size. After 30 seconds, the selection is frozen.
  • For sensor-controlled models, there is no need to select a serving size. The microwave will detect the serving size and adjust the heating time accordingly. To use the Beverage feature, simply press the Beverage pad one time.

For specific model instructions, consult the Owner's Manual for the model you own.
