Using Plastic Utensils or Dishes in Microwave
Use only microwave safe plastic utensils in the microwave oven. If they are not microwave safe, the plastic can melt. This is particularity true with food high in fat or sugar content. With extended periods of cooking, the plastic can weaken or melt from the heat of the food in the container.
To remove plastic that has melted and stuck to the interior of the oven:
- Boil a cup of water in the microwave and allow the steam to soften the plastic.
- When softened, use extreme caution to scrape the plastic off with a scraper being careful not to damage the microwave.
