Microwave - Temperature Probe
The temperature probe allows you to determine if the food being cooked is done by reading the internal temperature of the food rather than the temperature of the air within the oven cavity. On models that come with a turntable, the turntable will automatically be turned off when the probe is inserted.
Using the Temperature Probe in a Microwave
On most models, at the completion of the cooking cycle, the control automatically holds the food at the selected temperature until the Clear/Off pad is touched or the door is opened. On other models, the temperature Cook Hold time is one hour.
Foods most likely to use a probe include meats such as roasts and poultry, casseroles, stews and re-heating plates of leftovers. The temperature range is 90 to199 degrees Fahrenheit (80 to 199 degrees Fahrenheit on older models) which makes all the models unsuitable for using the probe for candy making. If the food item is colder than 90 degrees, the oven temperature readout will usually read -90 degrees Fahrenheit until it reaches that temperature. Some models may display "cool" when the temperature is below 90 degrees.
The probe requires a minimal amount of care. It can be easily cleaned with soap and water or by using a soapy scouring pad. Scour stubborn spots with a soapy scouring pad, rinse, and dry. Do not leave the probe plugged in when not in use.
