Microwave Auto Defrost

Auto defrost is a quick and easy way to defrost foods. Amounts of food up to six pounds can be defrosted. The auto defrost feature uses three different power levels (four, three, and one) to defrost meat and poultry without precooking them.

There are several different ways to set up the auto defrost. See the owner's manual for model specific set up information. Download a copy of your Owner's Manual.

Some models will allow you to select the type and weight of the item to be defrosted. Use the following steps:

  1. Touch AUTO DEFROST
  2. Enter the proper code (one for meat, two for poultry, or three for seafood)
  3. Enter weight ( .1 pounds to 6 pounds) per the weight listed on the food's packaging.
  4. Touch START
  5. The oven will signal as a reminder to turn or stir food midway through the cycle. After turning or stirring the food, close the door and touch START.

Some models require only three steps:

  1. Touch AUTO DEFROST
  2. Enter the weight per the weight listed on the food's packaging.
  3. Touch START

There are also some models that use six different codes for the defrost function. See the Owner's Manual for model specific information. Download a copy of your Owner's Manual.

The models that do not have a sensor cooking feature operate the Auto Defrost function by using pre-programmed time. This time is automatically computed from the weight inputted. For example: 4.0 pounds = 40 minutes of defrosting time, 3.2 pounds = 32 minutes of defrosting time, etc.
