Dishwasher - Detergent Cup Operation

The detergent dispenser is located on the inside door of your Dishwasher. All wash cycles require detergent in the main cup. The following information provides guidance and tips on using the detergent cup.

Using the Detergent Dispenser on a Dishwasher

Closing the Detergent Cup

  • Round Detergent Cover with Handle: Grip the detergent cup lid by the handle and turn clockwise until it clicks.

  • Square Flip-Up Cover: Press down on the cover until it snaps into the closed position.

  • Sliding Cover: Slide the cover into the closed position until it snaps into place.

Cup Will Not Close

  • Be sure the Dishwasher is off before adding detergent. Otherwise, the detergent cup will not close and latch properly.

    • Electronic Control Dishwashers: Press the Start/Reset pad twice to reset the Dishwasher.

    • Mechanical Control Dishwashers: The detergent cup will not close unless the timer has advanced to the off setting. Turn the timer knob a full revolution clockwise, ending at OFF.

  • If using detergent pods, make sure the pod is not interfering with the cover.

  • Make sure no detergent or food soils are caught in the latch mechanism.

Cup Does Not Fully Open

  • On Dishwashers with flip open detergent cups, it is normal for the cup cover to open against the upper rack. The cover opens to about a 45 degree opening. This design allows the jets at the ends of the lower spray arm to direct hot water into the soap cup and dissolve the detergent pod, powder or liquid detergent.

Opening Once Closed

  • Round Detergent Cover with Handle: Grip the detergent cup lid by the handle and turn counterclockwise until it releases. A snapping sound may be heard.

  • Square Flip-Up Cover: Press down on the lever at the front of the cover to release it.

  • Sliding Cover: Press the lever at the side of the cover to release it.
