Dishwasher - Locating the Water Shut-Off Valve

Dishwashers require a dedicated water supply line specifically for the appliance. The water supply line should always have a shut-off valve used to turn the water supply on and off. This is needed when the Dishwasher is newly installed, repaired, or for times when you desire to turn off the water such as an extended vacation.

Locating the Shut-Off Valve for the Dishwasher

The hot water line in your home which supplies water to the Dishwasher is usually located under the sink next to the Dishwasher. There should be a hand shut-off valve on the water line going to the Dishwasher. There may be several shut-off valves under the sink but the Dishwasher shut-off valve should be on a pipe or hose going through the cabinet into the Dishwasher.

  • To make sure the valve is fully open: Turn the handle counter-clockwise (to the left).
  • To make sure the valve is fully closed: Turn the handle clockwise (to the right).
We always recommend installing a hand shut-off valve on the water line to the Dishwasher in an easily accessible location. This provides for quick access should there ever be a leak or service need.
