Range & Cooktop - Cleaning the Griddle Accessory

Select Gas, Dual Fuel and Electric Ranges and Cooktops come with a griddle accessory. On Gas and Dual Fuel models, it may sit on the burner grate or replace the grate when it is being used.

Types of Griddles

There are Two Types of Griddles

  • Aluminum: Non-stick coating (same family as Teflon)
  • Cast Iron: Pre-seasoned with vegetable oil

Cleaning the Griddle

Cleaning an Aluminum Non-Stick Coated Griddle

  1. When using the aluminum non-stick coated griddle for the first time, wash with mild detergent and water, then dry thoroughly.
  2. After cooking, let the griddle cool and pour off excess grease.
  3. Wash the griddle in warm soapy water. Allow it to soak a few minutes, if necessary, to soften stubborn soils.
  4. If needed, a non-abrasive plastic scouring pad can be used to remove cooked on soils.
Note: The griddle cannot be cleaned in the Dishwasher.

Cleaning a Cast Iron Griddle or Reversible Grill/Griddle

  1. Before using the cast iron griddle the first time, wash with hot water only (no soap) to make sure it is clean.
  2. Dry the griddle thoroughly.
  3. Then, season it with a light coating of vegetable oil.
  4. After cooking, let the griddle cool and pour off excess grease.
  5. Wash the griddle in hot water with a sponge or stiff brush. Do not use scrubbing pads or steel wool.
  6. Towel dry and apply a light coat of cooking spray or vegetable oil. Store the griddle in a cool, dry place.
Note: The griddle cannot be cleaned in the Dishwasher.
