Common Pie Baking Problems and Solutions
Here are some problems that come up when baking pie and their solutions:
Burning Around Edges:
- The oven may be too full.
- Overcrowding can cause over browning.
- The pie crust edges could be too thin. The baking temperature could be too high.
Bottom crust is soggy and undercooked:
- The filling may be too thin or juicy. Make sure that crust and/or filling are cool before filling the pie shell.
- Fill the pie shell and bake immediately. Do not allow filling to stand in the pie shell before baking.
- Use a tested recipe. Ingredients and proper measurements can affect the quality of the crust.
- Make sure there are no tiny holes or tears in the bottom crust. Patching the crust could cause the crust to be soggy.
