Problems While Changing Your PNRV18 Reverse Osmosis System Filter

Problems While Changing Your Filter:
  • If the clamps are locked too tight, use a screwdriver to open clamp latches. To break the cap seal use a screwdriver between the tank and cap. To reassemble the membrane and pre-filter, put the pre-filter in first, bottom first. Then place the membrane in the center of the pre-filter. The end with "o" rings around plastic tubes goes in first. Slide it all the way down, and about 1/8" of blue plastic membrane covering will show, this is ok.
  • If the unit leaks when reassembled the cap has a black "o" ring that fits around the interior flange to make a seal to the tank. The "o" ring may have dropped inside tank when the cap was removed, or it may be mis assembled and pinched. Assemble the "O" ring to the flange on the cap first, then assemble the cap to the tank.
  • If you are getting no water, be sure to turn the saddle valve and storage tank back on. Allow 4 hours for the storage tank to fill.
  • If after changing the filter, the filter light is still on, the batteries must be changed when changing filters. Batteries are located in the electronic monitor. The monitor is a white box 3 inches square with 4 tubes attached to it, located in the bracket on the side of the tank. Take the cover off by the snaps on each side, remove old batteries, and replace them with 4 fresh AA 1.5 volt batteries. Be sure they are installed correctly, and follow the diagram on the monitor case.
  • If after changing your filter there are black particles in the water, these are excessive carbon fines (dust) from new filters. The system needs to be flushed, possibly several times. Allow the tank to fill, which takes approximately 4 hours, and turn on the faucet. Completely empty the tank and repeat this process until the particles are gone.
  • If the Premium Filtration (Reverse Osmosis) system light comes on, the membrane and filter were incorrectly installed. Turn off the water and drain your tank. Remove the cap and check the gray rubber cap on the filter. The filter must be installed with top up, and you should be able to see the words "this side up." If you cannot, remove it and re-install. Between the filter and the membrane there is a lip seal, it is along the inside diameter of the gray rubber cap. If it is pointed up along the membrane where it can be seen, it is not assembled correctly. Remove the filter and membrane and reassemble it correctly.
