Water Systems - Critical Steps to Follow When Changing Water Filters

Follow the below steps to change filters:

  1. Turn off the water at the supply valve clockwise
  2. Relieve the water pressure in the system by turning on the faucet, and allow the water to drain. On some models there is a red pressure relief button on top of the bracket that serves this purpose.
  3. Use the supplied sump wrench to remove the sumps turning it from right to left.
  4. Remove the old filters and replace them with new ones.
  5. Reassemble the sumps to the head and tighten it by hand securely.
  6. Turn on the water supply valve counterclockwise.
  7. Run the water through the system for 10 minutes and check for leaks. If there is a leak at the sump, turn off the water, relieve the pressure on the system, and tighten the sump. You may need to use the sump wrench and turn it up to a 1/4 turn.
  8. For the units that come with an electronic monitor, install two AA batteries to reset the indicator timer.

Important information regarding filtered water:

  • The water may contain black particles. These are harmless carbon fines from the filter. You can eliminate them by flushing water through the filter for several minutes.
  • The water may look cloudy. These are small air bubbles from trapped air in the housing or filters that will disappear after a few days of use.
  • If you can't remove the sump to replace filters, relieve the pressure on the water system as described above, then remove the sump.
