Water Softener - Salt Type
It is essential to use the correct type of salt in a water softener.
Choosing the Correct Type of Salt For a Water Softener
Only clean, 99.5% pure water softening salts should be used in the water softener. We recommend using Nugget, Pellet, or coarse Solar salts. Potassium chloride (KCl) can also be used as an alternative to sodium chloride (salt - NaCl) in the softener.
The type of salt (KCl or NaCl) does not have an affect or make a difference on the capacity to remove ferrous iron from the water.
Do not use rock, block, granulated table, ice cream making, ice melting salts or salts that are high in impurities. These contain dirt and sediments or will mush and cake, causing maintenance problems.
