Water Systems - Water Conditioning
Water conditioning is the treatment of 4 general conditions:
HardnessIt is a term to describe the presence of calcium and magnesium minerals in the water. This is usually measured in grains per gallon (gpg). 5 gpg of hardness is equal to dissolving 1 aspirin tablet in a gallon of water. Water hardness varies greatly around the country from 3 to 100 gpg!IronIron in water is of 4 types: ferrous (clear water), ferric (red water), bacterial bound iron, & inorganically bound iron. if the iron is found in a water supply which is fairly rare to, it is usually ferrous iron which a water softener will remove. If you are not sure about which type you have, a water analysis should be done.Acidity or the pH of waterIt affects your plumbing, fixtures and any appliances that use water. It can run from 0 to 14 with 6.9 being neutral. Most water systems are neutral or close to it. Water softeners cannot correct acidic water.SedimentIt is fine, foreign material particles suspended in water. It is most commonly found in well water in rural areas. Water softeners are not designed to handle a large amount of sediment. We recommend a sediment filter on the incoming line to the home to solve this problem.
