Water Softener - Setting the Timer for Regeneration on GXSS17

The GXSS17 / GXSS17Z water softener control operates differently than the other models. It regenerates on specific days of the week set up in the control. This is pre-set at the factory for most installations. You can change the settings to optimize the control's operation.  Refer to the "regeneration chart" in the Owner's Manual. To set the GXSS17 water softener for regeneration, follow the steps below. In order to set up the softener for operation, the current time/day must first be set in the control.To set the time and day:

1. Press time/day until hour digits flash.
2. Press set/clear until correct hours, including a.m./p.m. are displayed.
3. Press time/day until minute digits flash.
4. Press set/clear until correct minutes are displayed.
5. Press time/day until day of week digit flashes.
6. Press set/day until correct day is displayed.
7. Press time/day to complete set up, correct time of day will be displayed.

No other settings are required for the softener to operate. The control is pre-set at the factory for the regeneration time and days.

To set or change the regeneration time:

1. Press regeneration time until time flashes.
2. Press set/clear until the desired time is displayed, including A.M. or P.M.
3. Press regeneration time again to complete.

To determine regeneration days and fill time:

It is important to refer to the regeneration chart in the Owner's Manual before changing the pre-set settings . Based on the water hardness and the number of people in the household, the chart will define the required settings.

If you do not have the Owner's Manual, check the following:

• For a water hardness between 0-20 grains--set the softener to regenerate to 3 evenly spaced days through the week.
• For a water hardness between 21-25 grains-set the softener to regenerate 4 days during the week.
• For a water hardness between 26-30 grains-set the softener to regenerate 5 days during the week.
• For a water hardness between 31-35 grains-set the softener to regenerate 6 days during the week.
• For a water hardness of 36 or over --set the softener to regenerate every day of the week.

To set the regeneration day, on or off:

1. Press regeneration day, "su" day will flash.
2. Press set/clear to set regeneration for Sunday on or off.
3. Press regeneration day until "mo" flashes.
4. Press set/clear to set regeneration for Monday on or off.
5. Continue this process for each day of the week, setting "on" for those days indicated in the regeneration chart. When this process is complete, the current time of day and regeneration days that were just programmed in will be displayed in the control.

Note: If the control is set to ON it will regenerate that day.

To set the filling time:

1. Press the regeneration time until "fill" is displayed. It will automatically change to a number.
2. Press set/clear to change number. It should be set to correspond to number indicated in the regeneration chart.
3. Press the regeneration time to complete. The current time of day will be displayed.
