Range & Cooktop - Cookware and Accessories Not Recommended

The following are cookware and accessories that we do not recommend for use with our gas and electric ranges and cooktops.

 

Avoiding the Use of Cookware and Accessories Not Recommended for a Range or Cooktop

Gas Ranges and Cooktops

  • Cooktop Grills: We do not recommend that cooktop grills be used with our sealed burner gas cooktops. Their use may cause incomplete gas combustion and potential exposure to carbon monoxide.

  • Woks: Do not use a wok on a gas range burner if the wok has a round metal ring that is placed over the burner grate to support the wok. This ring acts as a heat trap which may damage the burner grate and burner head. Also, it may cause the burner to work improperly which can create a health hazard.

  • Diffuser: A "diffuser" is a solid or perforated piece of metal used to lower the heat of a burner. Do not use any kind of diffuser or similar product on any gas burner.

Electric Ranges and Cooktops

  • Wire Trivet: This is a piece of wire (usually triangular in shape) which is used to keep a pan/glass pot from sitting directly on the heating element. We do not recommend the use of a wire trivet on any of our electric ranges, including an electric coil, induction or radiant/halogen surface.

  • Diffuser: A "diffuser" is a solid or perforated piece of metal used to lower the heat of a burner. Do not use any kind of diffuser or similar product on any cooktop burner, including an electric coil, induction or radiant/halogen surface.

  • Silicone Mats or Grill Mats: Although they may be approved for use at higher temperatures, usually the temperature limit is 350 degrees Fahrenheit to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. The cooking surface could get hotter than this. They are not recommended for use on electric coil, induction, or radiant/halogen burners. They also keep radiant/halogen surface burners from heating/cycling properly.
