Side-by-Side Refrigerator - Water From Dispenser Is Not Chilled
Side-by-Side refrigerator models typically feature a dispenser on the door which dispenses chilled water. Much older Side-by-Side style refrigerators may not have the feature of chilled water. This article provides information regarding chilled water from a dispenser on Side-by-Side refrigerators.
Understanding the Chilled Water Feature on Side-by-Side Refrigerators
If you are getting water from your dispenser, but it is not chilled water from your dispenser, please review the following:
- If the refrigerator is newly installed or if the dispenser tank has been depleted, it will take 24 hours for the water to chill.
- Side-by-Side refrigerators made prior to the Summer 2002 have reservoir tanks which hold approximately 32 ounces of water. Beginning in the Summer of 2002, GE Appliance and Hotpoint models have a water storage coil that holds approximately 14.9 ounces of water.
- Adjust the temperature control on the Refrigerator to make the Fresh Food section colder which will help chill the water that comes from the dispenser.
- The first few ounces of dispensed water will be warm. This is the water in the tubing between the chilled tank and the dispenser.
- 2003 to current Hotpoint models do not have chilled water. They do not have a reservoir tank or a water storage coil.
