Side By Side Refrigerator Temperature Control

Side-by-side refrigerators have a temperature control for both the fresh food section and the freezer section.

How the Control Works:

Current models (1999 and newer): The freezer temperature adjustment determines how long the compressor runs. The more the compressor runs, the colder the freezer becomes. The fresh food adjustment controls the air flow between the freezer and fresh food compartments by adjusting the air baffle (damper) between the two sections. The more air that flows from the freezer into the fresh food compartment, the colder it gets.
  • Prior to 1999: The fresh food temperature adjustment determined how long the compressor ran and the fresh food adjustment controlled the air flow between the two compartments.

The easiest way to determine which control determines the compressor run time is to look for the OFF indicator. That is the knob that controls the thermostat.
