Dishwasher - Cleaning the Interior
The Dishwasher interior is self-cleaned through normal use and operation of the Dishwasher. If soap build-up does occur, the residue may be removed with vinegar, citric acid or a high quality Dishwasher cleaning product such as Cascade® Platinum™ Dishwasher Cleaner or Finish® Dishwasher Cleaner.
Options for Cleaning the Dishwasher Interior
- A Dishwasher cleaner will break up mineral deposits and remove hard water film and stains. You can purchase Finish® Dishwasher Cleaner at your local grocery store or order online from our GE Appliances Parts & Accessories website. The GE Appliances Part Number is WX10X10209.
- Citric acid can also be used to clean Dishwashers. It can be found at most grocery stores in the canning section. Instructions on using citric acid can be found in our Dishwasher - Citric Acid Wash for Interior Cleaning and Stains article.
- Use a vinegar rinse. Pour 1 cup of vinegar into the Dishwasher just after the detergent cup opens and let the Dishwasher complete the wash cycle. This may be repeated several times a year, if needed.
Caution: Avoid the use of abrasive scouring pads or harsh cleaners as they may mar the interior finish of your Dishwasher.
Cleaning the Sump Area
- You can remove the sump cover in the bottom of a Dishwasher for cleaning on many models. For model specific information about accessing this area, check the Owner's Manual for the model you own.
