Water Softener - Bypass Options

Always install a water softener with a bypass system. Bypass valves allow you to turn off water to the softener for maintenance while still having water through your house pipes.

Selecting the Bypass Option For a Water Softener

  • Single Bypass Valve: Included with the softener. The inlet and outlet valve connects to the bypass valve. Push in for bypass; pull out for "service" (soft water).
  • 3 Valve Bypass: Purchase parts required (inlet, outlet, and bypass pipes and shut-off valves). Install the Outlet Valve on the pipe from the water softener; install the Inlet Valve to the water softener; install the Bypass Valve between the Inlet and Outlet valves.
    • For soft water service: Open the inlet and outlet valves and close the bypass valve.
    • For bypass hard water: Close the inlet and outlet valves and open the bypass valve.

For more information, consult the Installation Instructions for your specific model.
