Vent Hood - Replacing PAR20 Halogen Lamps

Several of our vent hoods (for example, models JV666, JV665, JV636, JV635, JV566, JV565, JV536 and JV535) specify using a 50 watt maximum PAR20 lamp. These 50 watt halogen bulbs are available through local home improvement centers.

When replacing the light bulb, always allow it to cool completely before attempting to replace it.

To replace the bulb(s):

  1. First, be sure to turn the vent off and disconnect power at the fuse or circuit breaker. This is for your protection as well as protecting the vent hood.

  2. Wear gloves or use a cloth when removing the bulb to protect your hands.

  3. When installing a new bulb, DO NOT touch it with your bare hands. Oil from your skin will cause early failure of the bulb. Always wear clean gloves or use a clean cloth when installing these bulbs.

Halogen lamps come in a variety of sizes, types and attachment methods. Replace your bulbs with the same voltage and wattage recommended. All hoods with halogen lamps have a label placed near the lamp indicating this rating. DO NOT EXCEED the maximum wattage recommended. Failure to heed this warning can result in bulb or fuse failures.

Be extra careful when removing the bulbs the first time so that you do not damage the lamp socket. Some lamps have two pins that plug into the socket. To remove these lamps, pull straight out or pull straight down. Some have pins with a cylindrical base. These lamps must be turned 1/4 turn and pulled straight down.

Although we carry some replacement halogen bulbs, many are readily available through home improvement stores or specialty lamp stores so we do not carry them in our parts inventory.
