Upright & Chest Freezer - Electrical Requirements and Breaker Size
The
Owner's Manual or Installation Instructions for a Freezer will have the electrical requirements listed along with safety requirements for electrical usage. It is important to have the correct electrical supply for your Freezer.
Determining the Correct Electrical Requirements for a Freezer
Here is the information about the electrical and breaker size requirements for GE and Hotpoint Freezers.
- Upright and Chest Freezers require a 120 volt, individual, properly grounded branch circuit with a 3 prong grounding type receptacle, protected by a 15 or 20 amp circuit breaker or time-delay fuse.
- The Freezer should be on a dedicated circuit. This is recommended for best performance and to prevent the overloading of house wiring circuits.
Freezers should be on a dedicated circuit; however, sometimes the exact amperage or wattage is needed for use on a generator or other similar applications.
The rating plate on the appliance has the exact running amperage.
