Water Softener - Drop of Pressure

Anytime a device such as a water softener is connected to a home’s plumbing there will be a pressure drop across the device. The amount of pressure drop is determined by how fast water is flowing through the device. The faster the flow the higher the pressure drop. Since flow rate and pressure drop are dependent on one another, NSF standards call out that the pressure drop across a softener will be measured at the maximum service flow rate and will not exceed 15 psi pressure drop.

Drain Height 8' or less, pressure should be minimum 20 psi.Drain Height above 8', pressure should be minimum 50 psi.

Note: A drop in water pressure is usually not a result of the water softener. If a whole house filter is installed prior to the water softener, then the filter may need to be changed.
