Range & Wall Oven - Preheat Time Too Short
Many newer ranges and wall ovens have a Preheat feature that will signal when the oven has reached a temperature hot enough to add food rather than signal when the set temperature is reached. Typically, the range or wall oven will signal after about 7-12 minutes depending upon the temperature you set. For more information: Range & Wall Oven - Preheat.
We test our ranges and wall ovens with prepackaged foods, frozen pizzas, baked goods, etcetera. We put the items in when the Preheat signal beeps and get good results. This can help save time in the kitchen since, in most cases, you are not waiting longer than necessary for the oven to preheat.
Recipes can differ as can a food's preheat requirements. Most foods we tested did not require additional oven preheating to cook properly, though there are always exceptions. If you're finding a recipe isn't cooking properly, you may want to turn on the oven a little bit before you start your food preparation to give it a little more time to heat up. You can also remove unused racks when using the oven for a faster preheat, improved efficiency and optimal performance.
