Wall Oven Open Bottom vs Solid Bottom Installation

There are two recommended installations for a single or double wall oven inside a cabinet, including undercounter applications. While either installation is approved, check with the cabinet maker as well as the Installation Instructions for model specific information. Download a copy of the Installation Instructions.

Open bottom installations

  • Requires the use of (2) 2” x 4” or equivalent runners be used for proper performance and air circulation when there is no “floor” or “bottom” directly under the oven.

Solid bottom installations
  • Double wall ovens manufactured after May 2000 no longer require a hole to be cut in the base of the cabinet.
  • Models that require a hole be cut will have an instruction in the Installation Instructions that reads: "If a solid bottom is used inside the cabinet a 6” x 10” receptacle must be cut out of the center bottom of the cabinet for optimum performance and proper air circulation."
