Refrigerator - Rust on Ice Bucket Auger
The auger is the spiral piece in the icemaker bucket in a refrigerator that helps move ice forward out of the bucket. Newer augers are plastic, while older ones are made of chrome plated steel. It is possible that the chrome plated steel could be compromised, causing the auger to develop rust.
Fixing an Ice Bucket Auger That Has Developed Rust
Rust on the Auger
- If the chrome coating is scratched, chipped or worn away from hard water, this will expose the steel. Exposed to the cold moist conditions in the freezer, the steel will start to rust.
- There is no way to stop the rust once it starts. The auger will have to be replaced; however, this is difficult because disassembly of the entire bucket is required. We recommend service or purchasing a new ice bucket assembly, if available.
