Dishwasher - Levels of Wash Action
Types of Spray Action:
- Lower Spray Arm: The lower (main) wash spray arm, located at the bottom of the tub. This wash arm rotates under the lower rack and sprays water upward into the lower & upper racks.
- Power Tower: The tubular shaped power tower that is attached to the center of the main wash arm. Water pressure causes the power tower to telescope upward above the dishes in the lower rack, thus providing a spray wash from the middle of the tub out of the multi-hole tower. This is usually on older models.
- Middle Spray Arm: The spray arm under the upper rack has jets that face downward. As the spray arm rotates, water sprays over the lower dishes
- Upper Spray Arm or Spray Nozzle: Sprays water at the top of the dishwasher, sometimes called the Power Shower (some spray arm models). The spray action takes place in the top of the dishwasher, above the upper rack. The spray arm or nozzle directs water downward onto items that are in the upper rack.
Levels of Wash Action:
- 2 Level Wash:
- Lower Spray Arm - Sprays items in lower rack
- Power Tower - Sprays items in the upper rack
- 3 Level Wash:
- Lower Spray Arm - Sprays items in lower rack
- Power Tower - Sprays items in upper rack
- Upper Spray Arm - Sprays items in upper rack
- 4 Level Wash:
- Lower Spray Arm - Sprays items in lower rack
- Upper Spray Arm - Sprays items in upper rack
- Middle Spray Arm - Sprays items in lower rack and sprays items in upper rack (2 levels with one spray arm)
- 5 Level Wash (also called PowerScrub)
- Lower wash arm: A powerful wash action that flows through lower rack and on through to upper rack, providing excellent wash performance for dishes and glasses. (2 levels in one)
- PowerTower: Water pressure extends the telescoping Power Tower. This tower sprays water up into the upper rack, cleaning the insides of glasses, cups, and bowls. (2 levels in one)
- Upper Wash Arm: Rotating at 60 RPMs, it sprays water horizontally through a drive jet located at the end of the wash arm. This spray helps rotate the spray arm while also rinsing food debris down the walls of the dishwasher into the filtration system in the tub bottom. Six wash holes, located underneath the wash arm, sprays water downward to reach all the other dishes in the upper rack, making sure each dish is thoroughly clean.
- 6 Level Wash (ExtraClean™)
- Lower Wash Arm: Provides wash action to the lower rack and sprays water from the bottom to clean the filtration System. Water is sprayed through 7 huge holes in the lower wash arm. (2 levels in one)
- Middle Wash Arm: Provides spray to the lower and upper rack. Water for the middle wash arm is transported through a direct feed conduit running from the lower wash mechanism. The docking station behind the upper rack provides water flow to the middle wash arm. (2 levels in one)
- Upper Wash Arm: Provides wash action to the dish load directly below and to the outer perimeter of the upper rack. This arm is also driven with a conduit running from the rear interior of the tub. (2 levels in one - upper rack and lower rack)
