Dishwasher - HotStart
The Hot Start option is a feature on some GE and Hotpoint branded dishwashers that will preheat the water, allowing dishes to be washed at any time. So water coming into the dishwasher may be as low as 95 degrees F, and this feature will help raise the temperature to the required 120 degrees F.
How the Hot Start Option Works
- It actually heats the tub, spray arms, and dishes (prior to the main wash cycle), allowing proper cleaning without affecting the energy label.
- Once selected, approximately 1-1/2 gallons of water enters the tub, circulates in the tub for 5 minutes and then drains. This helps to purge any cold water that may be in the line. Then another 1-1/2 gallons of water enters the tub, circulates for approximately 15 to 20 minutes, and then drains. The heating element is on during this period of Auto HotStart (or HotStart), heating up the water and the tub.
- After this option is run, the dishwasher will automatically go into the cycle that has been selected.
- NOTE: On older TouchTap control models, in order to activate the HotStart option, you must select the button on the left and turn the dial to the appropriate position. On older Non-TouchTap control models, simply turn the dial to the appropriate position.
