Diagnosing a Concern with the PNSF39 Water Softener

No Time In the Display

The control unit is assembled by the installer and they may not have connected all the wires. You can check and correct it yourself in most cases. The information below can be found in the Installation Instructions for the water softener.

  1. Remove the front control cover and push in on the snaps on each side to remove the cover.
  2. Pull the cover forward slightly and rest the front on top of tank.
  3. Make sure all wires are pressed firmly in place.
  4. Check the blue color double wires on the left, black double wires on the right, and the 2 connector blocks, make sure they are connected.
  5. After checking the connections, re-assemble the control front by aligning the cover to the snaps on the side. Press down slightly and the cover will snap in place.
  6. If a loose connection was found, and power is restored, the control will need to be set. Refer to the Owner's Manual for instructions.

Display Is Flashing

  1. Press the Set pad until the words Present Time and the flashing time are in the display.
  2. Press the "+"or "-" pad to select the correct time. Note: Be sure to choose AM or PM.
  3. Press the Set pad again until the word Hardness and the flashing hardness number are in display.
  4. Press the "+" or "-" pad to select the correct hardness.
  5. Press the Set pad again and the correct time of day should be in the display. The water softener is now in operation mode.
  6. Initiate a regeneration cycle.
    • Locate the Touch-Hold pad on the control.
    • Press the pad and hold down until Recharge Now flashes in the display. The softener will regenerate for approximately 2 hours.
    • Allow a day or so for soft water to flush through water heater.

Data Displayed In Bottom Half of Display

  • Remaining Capacity: This is the percentage of water softening capacity remaining. Immediately after a regeneration, 100 percent shows. As water is used, the percentage decreases until the next regeneration. During regeneration, the percentage increments upwards. Note: After connecting to electrical power, zero percent shows until after the first regeneration begins.
  • Flow Rate, GPM: When using soft water, this display shows the flow rate passing through the softener (gallons per minute). Zero shows if water is not passing through the water softening system.
  • Gallons Today: Each day, beginning at midnight, the timer keeps a count of the total gallons of water that have passed through the softener.
  • Average Daily Gallons: The figure displayed is the average gallons of water used by the household each day over the past seven (7) day period.
    • Press the "Data" pad to clear data from the display and show the time of day.
    • You can set the timer to show liters instead of gallons. Refer to the Owner's Manual for detailed instructions to do this.
    • If gallons today or average gallons exceeds 1999, a "x10" indicator appears. This means you must multiply the number shown in display by ten (10).
