Microwave - Plastic Cover on Ceiling

It is a common design for a microwave oven to have a plastic cover on the ceiling of the interior.

Understanding the Plastic Cover on the Ceiling of a Microwave

Top feed microwave ovens feed the microwave energy from a stirrer at the top of the oven cavity. The opening in the top of the microwave oven cavity is protected with a plastic cover. The stirrer revolves to reflect and spread the microwave energy evenly throughout the oven cavity.

The cover may say Open/Close or have a symbol with a triangle with waves on it. This is for a technician's reference only. If the plastic cover protecting the stirrer is missing, damaged, or broken, the microwave should not be used until the cover has been replaced by a technician.
