Dishwasher - Anti-Backflow Drain Valve

Our GE Appliances dishwashers do have an anti-backflow drain valve as a part of the design.

Understanding the Anti-Backflow Drain Valve Feature on a Dishwasher

Our dishwashers have a built-in anti-backflow wash/drain diverter valve, also called a check valve. This is a special diverter valve built into the pump housing which normally directs wash water through the water distribution system. It eliminates the need and noise of reversing the motor and prevents backflow of soiled drain water into the dishwasher.

  1. At the end of each wash and rinse period, the valve operates to close the wash distribution port and open the drain port.

  2. After water is pumped out, the valve automatically closes the drain and opens the wash port.

The dishwasher will still need a high drain loop as described in the Installation Instructions for the model.
