Portable Washer - Draining Into a Sink

Draining portable washers into a bathroom or kitchen sink is allowed, and the faucet adapter will work with most kitchen sinks. However, use caution to make sure the sink can hold and drain the amount of water pumped from the washer.

Draining a Portable Washer Into a Sink

  • The pump will pump water at a rate of 15 GPM (gallons per minute). If you are draining into a sink, it must have the capability of holding 15 gallons, minus the drain rate which is typically 7 GPM in a normal sink. Many kitchen sinks are deep enough to hold this amount of water.
  • Splash out may be an issue with bathroom sinks because of their shape and depth. A typical shallow bathroom sink will likely be unable to handle the quantity of water from the washer. Removing the sink stopper can increase this drain rate.
  • Draining into a utility sink is preferred.
