Upright Freezer - Top Cold Plate
Many older upright freezers featured a top cold plate. The top cold plate feature was achieved by one wrap of the evaporator coil which extends across the top of the freezer ceiling to allow more cold air to drop straight down onto the food. This also allowed concentrated cooling of food on the top shelf because the food was "sandwiched" between the top cold plate and sitting on a refrigerated shelf. This feature is not available on new upright freezers.
