Microwave - Vegetables Soft and Discolored

Vegetable are soft and discolored after cooking:

  • Cook for minimum recommended time. Let stand, then judge doneness and cook longer of necessary. Over cooking is the most common cause of this.
  • Vegetables will turn dark if there is not enough water in with the vegetables. Cover with a tight-fitting lid or plastic wrap.
  • Vegetables will be tough, especially broccoli or asparagus if cooked too fast. Cooking too fast, not peeling vegetables first or improper arrangement of vegetables in container can all cause tough vegetables. Peel stalks before cooking. Cook for less time on full power or use a lower power level. Arrange thick spears or stalks to outside of dish with tender tops to center.
