Air Conditioner - Automatic Restart Feature
Air conditioners are designed to have the compressor cycle on and off as an integral part of their design.
Understanding the Automatic Restart Feature on an Air Conditioner
Some older GE Appliance room air conditioners and current models with electronic thermostat controls maintain room temperature within 3 degrees accuracy of the control setting. When the temperature is within this 3 degree range, an automatic restart timer will begin to function after the compressor shuts off. After 8 minutes, the compressor will resume operation until it reaches the cut-off (low temperature) point again.
Simply stated, the automatic restart feature ensures periodic air conditioner operation to maintain humidity at a comfortable level, even though the room temperature may not have risen enough to cycle the appliance back on. Thus, there will never be more than an 8 minute "off" time.
