Compact Refrigerator - Partial Automatic Defrost

Compact refrigerators are not frost-free or self-defrost refrigerators like full size refrigerators. They will require some defrosting by the owner from time to time.

Defrosting of a Compact Refrigerator

Compact refrigerators do not have a defrost system with a defrost heater. These models are described as Manual Defrost or Partial Automatic Defrost.

  • Fresh food compartment defrosting takes place automatically every time the refrigerator turns off. The freezer will need to be manually defrosted when frost or ice in the freezer compartment is 1/4" thick. We recommend manually defrosting the appliance as described in the Owner's Manual for your specific model.
  • We use the defrost description "Partial Automatic Defrost" on compact models with a separate fresh food and freezer section where the freezer is not inside the main compartment to indicate the fresh food section is frost free and the freezer is manual defrost. The directions for defrosting is the same as Manual Defrost.
