Washer - Concrete Cinder Block

When opening the washer case for a repair, you may notice a concrete cinder block in the rear area of the washer. This is a normal component of the washer.

Understanding the Purpose of the Concrete Cinder Block In a Washer

GE Appliances and Hotpoint washers often have a concrete cinder block sitting inside the case. It serves as a counter-balance to out of balance loads. This block is typically located opposite the motor and is secured by 2 long bolts with flat washers. If you have a washer with a cinder block on the right side of the motor, do not remove it. It is a part of the suspension system.
