Water Softener - Initial Salt Amount

The amount of salt to add to tank during new installation is dependent on the hardness of the water. The average tank holds 200 lbs. but need not be filled all the way, 3/4 full is ok. Check the tank after about two weeks to maintain this level. The average regeneration will use about 5 lbs. of salt.
